After 3.:
- Beside the pulldown menu that lets you choose the scaling, you
   can find three buttons. Click the third one ("Fit to page").
- Select menu "View" - "Autozoom"

This is usually the easiest way to get good results. You might
then want to adjust the scale factor to a common value that is
close to the automatically calculated factor.

That's advisable anyway.

Or switch both drawings to the same unit (e.g. "None") before
copy / pasting to avoid the conversion between units.
