I ran geoinfo.pl in debug mode and here is the output. It looks a bit odd to me that it is looking for a relative path in the perl path. find_file_in_perl_path(../planet.osm/C/UTF8sanitizer) I created those folders and stuck the sanitizer in there and it worked. I'm not shure where to do a propper fix for this as I can't find where the ../planet.osm/C path is specified ========================================================= david@debian:/opt/gpsdrive/bin$ ./geoinfo.pl --osm --area=australia --debug Import OSM Data Import OSM Data '' Download planet-xxxxxx.osm mirror_file(http://planet.openstreetmap.org//?C=M;O=D --> /home/david/osm/planet/planet_index.html) LWP: Not proxied LWP: got 806 Bytes (0.0008 MB) Simple response: OK mirror_file(http://planet.openstreetmap.org//?C=M;O=D): OK Mirror OSM Data from http://planet.openstreetmap.org/planet-061227.osm.bz2 mirror_file(http://planet.openstreetmap.org/planet-061227.osm.bz2 --> /home/david/osm/planet/planet-061227.osm.bz2) LWP: Not proxied LWP: Simple response: Not Modified mirror_file(http://planet.openstreetmap.org/planet-061227.osm.bz2): NOT MODIFIED Choosen File: /home/david/osm/planet/planet-061227.osm.bz2 UTF8sanitize(/home/david/osm/planet/planet-061227.osm.bz2) UTF8 Sanitize /home/david/osm/planet/planet-061227.osm.bz2 ... find_file_in_perl_path(../planet.osm/C/UTF8sanitizer): --> Sanitizer not found ========================================================= On Sun, 2006-12-31 at 11:38 +1100, David wrote: > On Sun, 2006-12-31 at 00:11 +0100, Joerg Ostertag (gpsdrive > Munich/Germany) wrote: > > On Saturday 30 December 2006 23:46, Guenther Meyer wrote: > > > Am Samstag 30 Dezember 2006 23:28 schrieb David: > > > > I'm not sure how the other external files are copied into gpsdrive but > > > > perhaps it would be easy to just grab that executable file at the same > > > > time and put it somewhere appropriate. Oh, by the way as you might have seen in the Area.pm File, there is also a
possibility to combine an area by specifying multiple smaller areas. Just in
case someone wants to have one of the areas more precise ;-)
Example:
europe => [ [ 35 , -12, 75, 35 ],
[ 62.2,-24.4,66.8,-12.2 ], # Iceland
],

Yes for now we need a little bit more code, but I hope we can wait for this to solve for others than the core developers. Since the UTF8 error where down to 400 in the last planet.osm and I hope the will vanish in one of the next one or two month. But on the other hand I'm thinking of adding more tools from osm to gpsdrive, since we have a complete packaging system already running and those small additions of 5-6KB won't add too much load to a distribution/package file of 3MB. But on the other hand it would make things a lot lot easier for others to use osm data inside gpsdrive. - Joerg -- This message was part of the gpsdrive mailinglist unsubscribing can be done by sending a mail containing a body of: -quote-- unsubscribe gpsdrive -unquote-- to majordomo-ahljRfkWE0EwtzFM8z8+AfP6llvjuJOh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I added what I hope are the coordinates for Australia to Area.pm in the
area definitations.
australia => [ [ -44 , -9, 112, 154 ] ],
It wasn't clear what order to put the values in so I copied africa :)
Once this works it would be great if you could add them the original
Area.pm on OSM.
Then I ran the script again using --area=australia
=====================================================================

I then did a search in synaptic for Slurp.pm
It founds a library so I installed that.
I ran the command again and this is the result
======================================================================
david@debian:~/build/gpsdrive/trunk/scripts$ ./geoinfo.pl --osm

Import OSM Data ''
Download planet-xxxxxx.osm
UTF8 Sanitize /home/david/osm/planet/planet-061227.osm.bz2 ...
Sanitizer not found

It did something as it downloaded a file named planet-061227.osm.bz2
And it is about 98mb.
I did another search in Synaptic and it found a package named..
"Perl extension for scrubbing/sanitizing html"
So I installed that.
But it didn't make any difference.

Sounds good to me. No point in doing any of this stuff twice. I noticed that their server was a little slow to respond today, so I hope this doesn't create any problems. But other than that it worked very nicely and I didn't need to know what was going on. Now a little more detail on the stuff i did:
I combined the svn repositories of GpsDrive and OpenStreetmap(OSM). The reason
for this is to share Code and get a possibility to easily install the stuff
needed for importing OSM data into GpsDrive. So i added some external
references to the OSM repository and more will follow:
gpsdrive/trunk/scripts/perl_lib/Geo/OSM
gpsdrive/trunk/scripts/perl_lib/Utils
gpsdrive/trunk/scripts/perl_lib/Geo/Filter
This has the benefit, that this part of the code only has to be maintained one
time. The downside of this is, that if anyone wants to change something
inside these Codepart he also has to get a svn login for
svn.openstreetmap.org. But this shouldn't be too difficult, since the OSM
project is also an OpenSource Project with pretty active developers. In case
anyone wants to help out there or modify parts linked to the OSM repository
he can send a mail to nick-kMuUVokNkCa9FHfhHBbuYA@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Nick Hill)
and ask for a
osm-svn-login. The other possibility is to send a diff to me/the-list or any
other developer with osm-svn-access.

I ran svn checkout again a few hours later and I received all the files ok. Compilie then failed complaining about a make problem in the tests directory. I created a Makefile.am by copying on from a neighbouring directory and changing the names. It seemed to work ok so I commited it. Please check to make sure I did the right thing. I also commited the generated Makefile.in. I'm not sure if that is the right thing to do either. It compiles ok now but I don't have any time to retest geoinfo.pl just yet :) Have fun. Seems I can't attach a 100k file to the list which is probably fair enough. Anyone who would like to test with let me know and I'll email it directly. Since I want to synchronize scripts with the osm repository I'll move around
some scripts very soon. So everyone should expect any perl module under
scripts/.../*.pm
to move one level lower:
scripts/perl_lib/...
After this move we should be able to use the planet.osm-mirror scripts inside
gpsdrive too. The moves are already done here locally. I'm only updating the
makefiles and after this was successfully; I'll commit it.

More FYI Stuff
I haven't touched mysql in a while so I tried creating a fresh database
with the following command. I'm working with a svn version that is a
few days old (1133) as the current version (1159) won't compile.
(see previous message)
I also notice at the end of the messages that the planet.osm file
appears to be unavailable.
